Bullet Point Summary

Melachim II Perek 12

Yeho’ash ruled over Yehudah for seven years. His mother’s name was Tsivya.

Yeho’ash failed to remove the bamos, (private altars) and this unlawful worship continued.

Yeho’ash had the kohanim and levi’im collect money from all of Yisrael for the maintenance of the Beis Hamikdash.

Yehoyadah the kohen suspected the kohanim of stealing (Radak) so he arranged for the money to go directly to the workers for the maintenance of the Beis Hamikdash. He created a tzedakah box with a seal on it in the Beis Hamikdash where the worshippers would place their donations. When the tzedakah box was full, Yehoyadah would count the money .

Chaza’el, King of Aram, started to provoke Yisrael.

Yeho’ash sent many of the holy items from the Beis Hamikdash to Chaza’el, in an effort to bribe him not to go to war against Yisrael.

Yeho’ash was killed by his men in a rebellion. (The background story in Divrei Hayomim II: Idol worship had spread through Yehudah. The prophet Zecharya, the son of Yehoyadah, harshly criticized Yisrael on Yom Kippur in the Beis Hamikdash and the people stoned him. Yeho’ash, who was present at the time, did not do anything to prevent Zecharya from being stoned. Hashem punished Yeho’ash by letting Chaza’el attack him.)

Amatzya, the son of Yeho’ash, ruled next.
