Bullet Point Summary
Melachim II Perek 13
Yehoachaz, son of Yehu, reigned seventeen years in Yisrael.
Yehoachaz was defeated by Chaza’el, king of Aram.
Yehoachaz poured his heart out to Hashem. Hashem sent a savior to Yisrael. (Rashi, Radak – Yeho’ash, son of Yehoachaz.)
Chaza’el almost completely disarmed the military of Yisrael .
Yisrael returned to doing evil in the eyes of Hashem.
Yeho’ash, son of Yehoachaz, reigned over Yisrael next.
Elisha became sick.
Elisha told Yeho’ash to shoot an arrow into the air. Elisha understood by the direction that the arrows went that Hashem would make Yeho’ash victorious over Aram.
Elisha told Yeho’ash to shoot the remaining arrows into the ground. Yeho’ash only shot 3 arrows into the ground.
Elisha told Yeho’ash that because not all the arrows had been shot into the ground, he would only defeat Aram three more times, and not forever.
Elisha died.
Once when Yisrael was burying a dead person, a platoon of Moavite soldiers interrupted the funeral precession.
In their haste, the dead body was thrown into the grave of Elisha. When the body touched Elisha’s bones the man came back to life and he left the grave. (Medrash Tehilim: The man in the story is the child of Isha Shunamit, with whom Elisha had previously done an earlier miracle of resurrection.)
Ben Hadad, son of Chaza’el, ruled over Aram next.
Yeho’ash was able to reclaim many of the cities of Yisrael from Ben Hadad.
