Bullet Point Summary
Melachim II Perek 16
Achaz, son of Yosam, at age twenty two, reigned over Yehudah for sixteen years.
Achaz was more evil than all of the kings of Yehudah and Yisrael!
Achaz worshiped Molech, who was served by waving one’s child through fire, and he spread idol worship throughout the entire land. (Sanhedrin 63b – Chizkiyahu was the son that Achaz would wave through the fire. However, Achaz’s wife covered Chizkiyahu with a small type of salamander that would come out of fire after seven years, which protected Chizkiyahu from getting burned.)
Pekach, king of Yisrael, joined forces with R’tsin, king of Aram, to battle against Achaz.
Achaz was not defeated. Achaz paid Tiglas P’leser, king of Ashur, gold and silver from the Beis Hamikdash for his help in the battle.
Tiglas P’leser killed R’tsin, king of Aram.
Achaz had Uria the kohen make a replica of the altar that Tiglas P’leser had used in Ashur.
The replica altar was used for the sacrifices in the Beis Hamikdash, instead of the altar that King Shlomo had built.
Achaz rearranged the Beis Hamikdash and dismantled many of the vessels that King Shlomo had built.
Chizkiyahu, son of Achaz, ruled over Yehudah next.
