Bullet Point Summary
Melachim II Perek 19
Chizkiyahu, the king of Yehudah, tore his clothing after hearing that Sancheriv, king of Ashur, wanted to destroy Yerushalayim.
Chizkiyahu sent a delegation to the prophet Yeshaya to see what Hashem wanted him to do.
Yeshaya told him not to be afraid, as Hashem would be with the nation, and Sancheriv would retreat.
Ravshakei, general for Sancheriv, told Sancheriv that the king of Cush was approaching to attack Ashur. Sancheriv, king of Ashur, retreated from Yerushalayim to confront the king of Cush.
Ravshakei again sent messages to Chizkiyahu, threatening to return to Yerushalayim, saying “Hashem will not protect you from Sancheriv, king of Ashur.”
Chizikyahu took the messages, spread them out on the floor in the Beis Hamikdash, and prayed to Hashem for help.
The navi Yeshaya related a prophecy to King Chizkiyahu about Sancheriv. The gist of the prophecy was that by insulting Yisrael, Sancheriv was directly insulting Hashem, provoking Hashem by cursing Yisrael, and acting with arrogance. The remaining members of Yisrael would therefore prosper and Sancheriv would not! Hashem would protect Yerushalayim for the sake of King Dovid.
The next morning an angel passed over the Ashur camp and killed 185,000 soldiers as they slept.
Sancheriv then fled to Ninveh.
Sancheriv was killed by his children while engaging in idol worship.
