Melachim II Perek 22
Bullet Point Summary
Melachim II Perek 22
This perek marks the last righteous king of Yehuda.
Yoshiyahu, son of Menashe, at eight years old, reigned for thirty one years over Yehudah.
Yoshiyahu did what was right in the eyes of Hashem.
Yoshiyahu commanded Shafan the scribe to gather the money that was donated to the Beis Hamikdash and give it to workers to make repairs in the Beis Hamikdash.
Chilkiyah, the kohen gadol, found a Torah scroll and read the Torah together with Shafan.
Note: Metsudos explains that when Achaz, the great grandfather of Yoshiyahu, was burning a Torah, the kohanim ran to the Ark and hid the original Torah scroll that Moshe had written, for fear that Achaz would burn it as well. This is the Torah that was now found by Chilkiyah.
The Torah was read to Yoshiyahu and Yoshiyahu did teshuva.
Yoshiyahu sent a delegation to Chulda, the prophetess, to find out from her what Hashem had to say.
Chulda prophesied that Hashem will pour His wrath upon Yisrael, but, because of his teshuva, Yoshiyahu would not see the devastation that would occur.
The delegation left Chulda.
