• Dovid mourned the death of his son, Avshalom.

• Yoav rebuked Dovid for mourning so deeply for Avshalom. Yoav claimed that in doing so: 1) Dovid humiliated the warriors of Yisrael who had risked their lives for him. 2) Dovid should be happy that Hashem had saved him from his enemies. 3) Dovid would also be further humiliating his concubines by mourning for Avshalom.

• The supporters of Avshalom argued amongst themselves about reinstating Dovid as king.

• King Dovid told Avyasar and Tsadok to tell the Elders of Yehudah that Dovid would be returning to Yerushalyim.

• Amasa was appointed the general over Yoav. (Dovid was upset with Yoav for disobeying his orders and killing Avshalom.)

• Shimi ben Gera, who had initially cursed King Dovid, came, accompanied by 1,000 men, to apologize to King Dovid.

• Dovid told Avishai that he should not kill Shimi Ben Gera.

• Mefiboshes, the son of Shaul, showed up dirty and unkempt. Mefiboshes explained to King Dovid that Tsiva (Mefiboshes’ servant) had tricked him, causing him to be unable to show support for King Dovid when he was fleeing for his life.

• King Dovid was unsure whether or not to believe Mefiboshes. King Dovid split King Shaul’s estate, giving half to Tsiva and half to Mefiboshes.

• Barzilai, an 80-year-old man who had previously provided food for Dovid and his men, came to show support for Dovid.

• King Dovid invited Barzilai to live in the king’s court in Yerushalyim.

• Barzilai declined Dovid’s offer and sent his son, Chimham, in his stead.

• King Dovid reentered Eretz Yisrael, crossing the Yarden River.

• The tribe of Yehudah argued with the rest of Yisrael about to whom King Dovid owed more allegiance.
