Bullet Point Summary

Shmuel II Perek 4

  • Ish Boshes and all of Yisrael were shocked by the news of the death of Avner. (Note: Yisrael was concerned about the type of people with whom the new king, Dovid, was surrounding himself.)

  • Mefiboshes was the lame son of Yonason. Mefiboshes’ nurse had dropped him when he was five years old, when the nurse heard the news of the deaths of Yonason and Shaul. This caused Mefiboshes’ legs to become paralyzed.

  • Two men, Rachav and Ba’ana, who were high-ranking officers from the house of King Shaul, killed Ish Boshes.

  • The two men had pretended to be wheat merchants in order to gain entrance into the house of Ish Boshes.

  • The two men approached Ish Boshes as he slept and decapitated him.

  • The head of Ish Boshes was brought to King Dovid.

  • King Dovid then killed the two men by cutting off their wrists and ankles and he displayed their body parts for all of Yisrael to see. (Note: Dovid wanted to show Yisrael that he had nothing to do with the death of Ish Boshes and he did not order his assassination.)
