Bullet Point Summary
Yeshaya Perek 37
Note: This perek is a continuation of the previous perek.
-
Chizkiyahu sent a delegation to Yeshaya to deliver the news that Sancheriv was planning to decimate the city of Yerushalyim and its residents.
-
Yeshaya responded, “Don’t be afraid. Hashem will help you!”
-
Hashem then sent a distraction to Ravshakei, Sancheriv’s chief general. Tirhakah, the king of Cush, began to wage war against Sancheriv. Ravshakei was forced to retreat and attend to more imminent military matters.
-
Chizkiyahu prayed to Hashem in the Beis Hamikdash. The gist of his prayer was a plea that Hashem should save Yisrael and Yerushalyim from Sancheriv’s army.
-
Yeshaya relates a lengthy prophecy. The gist of the prophecy is that Hashem will protect Yisrael from Sancheriv, since Sancheriv has disgraced both Yisrael and Hashem. Hashem is ultimately going to save Yerushalayim for the sake of His servant, Dovid Hamelech.
-
Hashem then performed an amazing miracle. In the middle of the night Hashem sent an angel to kill all of the 185,000 soldiers in Sancheriv’s army! The next morning the corpses of the Ashurian army lay everywhere!
-
In short order Yisrael had been saved from Sancheriv, without even needing to lift a single finger.
-
Sancheriv fled to Ninveh, where he was killed by two of his children.
-
Aisarchadone, the son of Sancheriv, ruled over Ashur next.
