Bullet Point Summary

Yeshaya Perek 27

  • This perek is a continuation from the last perek about what will happen during the time of the war of Gog Umagog

  • The livyason will be killed. These are giant serpents from the six days of creation, also referred to as taninim. Radak and Metzudos say that this is a parable and not meant to be taken literally. It’s a reference to the downfall of the nations Yishmael and Edom.

  • The seed of Yaakov will take root. Yisrael will flourish like never before, as they will no longer be persecuted.

  • Am Yisrael will be forgiven for their sins, as they have suffered throughout the exile.

  • All idol worship and false gods will be destroyed. Strong cities will be destroyed. Hashem will not have pity on the prosecutors of Yisrael.

  • Hashem will separate Yisrael from the surrounding nations like a seed covered by chaff.

  • On that day, a great shofar will be sounded. All of the lost people of Am Yisrael will return to Eretz Yisrael, and they will bow to Hashem on His holy mountain in Yerushalayim. Radak and Metzudos, however, learn the pasuk is not meant to be taken literally. Rather, the entire nation returning to Eretz Yisrael will produce the same effect as a shofer being blown, as it will be known to the entire world that there was an ingathering of the exiled Am Yisrael.
