Yeshaya Perek 24

• Rashi: The entire perek refers to the war of Gog u’Magog that will take place during the times of Mashiach.

• Radak: The initial part of the perek refers to when Sancheriv, the king of Ashur, will banish the ten tribes of Yisrael from Eretz Yisrael. The latter part of the perek refers to the times of Mashiach.

• The entire earth will be completely decimated. It will be parched, dried up, and withered. People will be killed indiscriminately, with disregard of their profession or righteousness.

• According to Rashi, the remnant who survive will thank Hashem for the goodness that Hashem has done for them.

• According to the Radak, Yeshaya is bothered by the concealment of two pieces of information: 1. Why Yisrael will have to endure so much suffering throughout their exile. 2. The secret of when and how the redemption will come.

• Terror and fear will befall all the people of the earth.

• According to the Radak, this refers to Yishmael and Edom (the exile in which we live today.) “Don’t think that only Yisrael will be scared of Yishmael and Edom at the end of days. Rather, the entire world will be gripped by terror and fear from the merging of these two nations. However, in the end, Hashem will save Yisrael and the tzadikim!”

• On that day when Mashiach will come, the sun and moon will be darkened. Radak: the world will be darkened by the suffering /pain of Yishmael and Edom. However, Mashiach will conquer the other half of Yerushalyim that is in the hands of a foreign nation. In the end, Hashem’s light will shine forth from Tzion!”
