Read the text of Yeshayahu 8
Bullet Point Summary
Yeshaya Perek 8
-
Hashem commanded Yeshaya to write four prophetic words on a scroll in a clear and concise manner for all to see. The words indicated that Sancheiriv would be coming to take spoils of war.
-
Yeshaya related that he had appointed two witnesses that were to bear testimony to his prophecy.
-
A sign that he spoke the truth would be that his (Yeshaya’s) wife would give birth to a son and before the child would even be able to speak, Sancheriv, the king of Ashur, would exile the ten tribes of Yisrael.
-
Yeshaya prophesied: Like two great oceans which flood the land, so will Yisrael be “flooded” out of their land.
-
But Yeshaya then comforts Yisrael, saying, “Do not fear. Ultimately the nations of the world will not stand a chance against you. (reference to the times of Mashiach.) Hashem is constantly causing their evil plans to disintegrate before they come to fruition.”
-
Hashem tells Yeshaya not be enticed by the false logic that members of Yisrael may try to utilize to persuade him to engage in forbidden forms of worship.
-
Yeshaya declares his personal faith in Hashem in spite of Hashem trying to conceal Himself.
-
Hashem tells Yeshaya to weaken Yisrael’s commitment to forbidden types of worship (divination and necromancers.)
-
None of the false gods will help them when Sancheriv causes a great famine in the land.
-
The exile of Yehudah will be harsher than the exile of the ten tribes of Yisrael.
