Tzefania Perek 1

Note: There are many levels on which to understand what the phrase “on that day”, which is repeated over and over again through this perek, connotes. Many meforshim learn that “on that day” is referring to events that already transpired. However, others learn that “on that day” refers to on the ultimate day of judgement, at the time of the final redemption.

• This perek is a prophecy of harsh destruction.

• “On that day God is going to destroy all men, beasts, birds, and fish.”

• “God will wipe them off the face of the earth!”

• “I will wipe out Yehuda and devastate Yerushalayim.”

• “Judgment Day is coming faster than you realize.”

• “I will punish the false leaders.”

• “Screaming and shrieking will be heard from Yerushalayim.”

• “The Day of God is near.”

• “Blood will fill the streets.”
