  • Shaul went forth with and large army. The Plishtim are weakened.

  • After Shaul had weakened the Plishti Army. Shaul commanded Yisrael not to eat any food. This was an attempt to maintain Yisroel’s spiritual stature to win the war.

  • Yonason, unaware of the public fast Shaul had declared ate from the dripping nectar in the forest they were in.

  • Yonason was made aware of the fast day his father Shaul had enforced.

  • Yonason defended himself by relating if Yisrael had eaten they would have been stronger for war.

  • Shaul asked Hashem before continuing in battle.

  • Hashem did not answer Shaul. Shaul understood there was a sinner amongst them.

  • Shaul drew a lottery to locate the sinner punishable by death.

  • Yonason is identified as the one who disobeyed King Shaul.

  • Yonason accepts his fate.

  • Yisrael defended Yonason by relating Yonason was the reason why they won the war in the first place and therefore should not be killed.

  • Yonason is saved.

  • Shaul stopped pursuing the Plishtim.
