Yirmiya Perek 1

The perek starts by introducing Yirmiya, the son of Chilkiyahu the kohen, who lived in Anasos, located in Binyamin.

Hashem related choosing Yirmiya before he was even born.

Yirmiya’s difficult mission was to deliver harsh prophecies to Yisrael about their behavior and the impending destruction of the Bais Hamikdash.

Yirmiya’s prophecies were also for the nations of the world.

Hashem urged Yirmiya to accept his mission despite Yirmiya’s claim of being young and unfit for speech.

Hashem touched Yirmiya’s mouth and purified his power of speech.

Yirmiya had his first vision of seeing an almond branch. Hashem confirmed that Yirmiya was correct in what he saw – the almond branch.

Yirmiya’s second vision was of a boiling hot pot of water. Radak: the pot is Yerushalayim. The fire is Bavel, who will come and spread fire to Yerushalayim, causing it to “boil”.

Hashem spoke words of encouragement to Yirmiya.

Hashem told Yirmiya, “People will fight against you. But I, Hashem, will be there to save you.”
