Bullet Point Summary
Yirmiya Perek 37
This event took place during the reign of king Tzidkiyah.
At that time it seemed that the Egyptian army was going join forces with Yehudah to defeat the army of Bavel.
Note: This was a hopeful sign for King Tzidkiyah.
Tzidkiyah sent two messengers to Yirmiya asking Yirmiya to pray on his behalf.
Yirmiya sent back a prophecy that related that only Hashem can save, and no other.
Bavel’s army retreated after hearing the possibility that the Egyptian army might fight against them.
Yirmiya fled to the region of Binyamin.
A guard in Binyamin’s territory accused Yirmiya of colluding with Nevuchadnetzar.
Yirmiya denied the accusation.
Yirmiya was beaten and thrown into a pit. Note: this was considered a very dangerous maximum security jail where the worst criminals were sent.
Tzidkiyah eventually sent for Yirmiya.
Yirmiya pleaded for his life and begged not to be returned to the pit.
Tzidkiyah agreed to the request and kept Yirmiya confined to a courtyard with a guard.
Yirmiya was fed a bread daily until there was no more.
