Bullet Point Summary

Yirmiya Perek 45

Note: This is the shortest perek in the sefer.

Hashem sent Yirmiya a prophecy for Baruch ben Neriah.

Note: Baruch ben Neriah was Yirmiya’s student and scribe. Its unclear whether or not he actually received prophecy. (Listen to NachDaily Audio for further information.)

Baruch lamented the fact that all “great students” had received prophecy. Radak explains: Both Yehoshua and Elisha had received prophecy after serving /being apprenticed to their teachers, Moshe and Eliyahu.

Hashem’s response was, “How can you seek these lofty levels of prophecy for yourself when I’m about to bring disaster on the nation?”

Radak, Metsudos explain that a prophet only receives prophecy in merit of the nation. Here Yisrael was being punished; therefore it was unfit to give Baruch prophecy.
