Bullet Point Summary

Sefer Yirmiya Perek 51

This perek continues to relate the destruction of Bavel by Persia and Media.

The Navi interjects by contrasting God’s greatness with the futility of idol worship.

“God is great! He created the heavens and earth!”

“But Hashem’s portion, Yaakov, is not like them. Am Yisrael is Hashem’s personal inheritance”

Another prophecy about the downfall of Bavel:

Yirmiya recorded on scrolls his prophecies of doom about Bavel, and instructed Serayah Ben Neriah (Brother of Baruch Ben Neriah) to read a scroll to the king of Bavel.

Once the scroll was read, Serayah was to tie it to a rock and throw it into the Euphrates river.

This marks the end of Yirmiya’s prophecies. Radak and Metsudos explain that the last perek of Yirmiya is not a prophecy. It is a historical account of the exile and the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash. (Listen to NachDaily audio for further information.)
