Tehilim Perek 93
Welcome to NachDaily, covering the entire TANACH one perek at a time. I’m Rabbi Shaya Sussman, and today we’ll be discussing Tehilim, Chapter 93. We say this every day during the Shacharis morning prayers.
This continues the chapters written by Moshe Rabbenu. The Radak explains that the next 8 chapters are all about the final redemption and the times of Mashiach.
This perek relates how Hashem ‘s future kingship will be revealed.
He will wear His attribute of might and grandeur as it says, “Hashem Melech gayus lavesh.” Hashem’s throne will be established for all of eternity. Evil will be completely eradicated. The author ends by proclaiming that God’s testimonies are trustworthy and eternal.
Verse 1 says:
The LORD is King, He is robed in grandeur; the LORD is robed, He is girded with strength. The world stands firm; it cannot be shaken.
The Ramad Walli explains that this perek is an offshoot of the previous one, to teach us about the tikkun haolam, the perfection of the world that will take place la’asid la’vo, in the future. Hashem will change His “clothing” just as a person changes from weekday clothes into Shabbos garb.
Hashem’s Shabbos clothes of “gayus,” grandeur, will be completely holy with no admixture of impurity in them. They will be completely kadosh, as gayus: gimmel, aleph, vav, saf, has the same numerical value of kadosh, which equals 410.
The Ramad Walli goes on to explain, kabbalistically, that the words “oz hisazar,” girded with strength, refers to the Torah. Hisazar has the numerical value of 613, which corresponds to the amount of mitzvos in the Torah. This teaches that the entire world will be brought to its final tikkun, where all will be repaired and elevated through the Torah.
The Ramad Walli demonstrates that the numerical value of the words in this passuk equal Hashem’s Divine name of HVYH. This teaches that the changing of Hashem’s clothing is directly related to the revelation of the different spellings of Hashem’s name that will reign supreme.
Rebbe Nachman notes that the fact that Hashem has concealed His true providence from us stems from His great love. If God were to reveal His grandeur when the world was not ready for it, Am Yisrael would inadvertently suffer from the influx of Godliness.
God is therefore constantly preparing the world to prepare it to be able to handle His Kedusha. Like a fruit slowly becoming ripe, the world is becoming ripe to handle the influx of purity and kedusha that will take place when Hashem dons His “clothing” of splendor.
We are almost there!
May we merit seeing Hashem change His clothing during our lifetimes, to see the splendor of the King.
Thank you for listening and have a wonderful day
