Tehilim Perek 96

Hello everybody, I hope you’re all doing well on this wonderful day. I’m Rabbi Shaya Sussman, covering the entire TANACH one perek at a time. Today’s NachDaily is Tehilim Chapter 96, continuing the chapters written by Moshe Rabbenu.

This is a festive, happy prayer describing the way that we will all sing a new song to God upon Mashiach’s arrival. Each person will gather his siblings and say, “Come, let’s go sing to Hashem!”

There will be so much happiness and simcha in the air. We’ll see how Hashem was perfectly guiding us on both a national and individual level throughout our lives. We’ll truly see that there is no other power, as there will be a deep understanding that Hashem is the prime Cause, Who surrounds and fills the entire creation. We’ll see how no world event or even the suffering of the smallest person was separate from Hashem.

There will be so much happiness that the heavens, earth, sea, mountains and forests will sing ecstatically.

“God is good,” we’ll declare in front of the whole world. “God is King! He judges all people on earth fairly.”

Many people are frightened about what will happen when Mashiach comes, but there isn’t anything to fear. We will all be totally euphoric and experience ecstasy, pure bliss beyond our wildest imaginations. It will be greater than any pleasure we’ve ever had throughout our entire lives.

Mashiach is coming for every single member of Am Yisrael. The sefarim explain that it won’t be like the redemption from Egypt when four-fifths of our nation was left behind. It will be a complete and final redemption for netzach netzachim, all of eternity.

Verse 1 says:

שִׁ֣ירוּ לַ֭יהוָה שִׁ֣יר חָדָ֑שׁ שִׁ֥ירוּ לַ֝יהוָ֗ה כָּל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃

Sing God a new song, sing to God, all the earth.

The Mechilta in parshas Shemos 15:1, as we’ve mentioned many times, tells us that there are 10 songs, beginning with the Song of the Sea led by Moshe, and concluding with the tenth that will be sung by Mashiach himself. All the 9 songs mentioned throughout Tanach are written in the feminine form. The world shirah, song, is itself a feminine word. This is because all the other songs in a way “gave birth” to further servitude, as we were not fully redeemed at those times. The proof of this is that we are still here!

The tenth song which will be sung by Mashiach will be lashon zachar, masculine, indicating that it will be a permanent and final redemption. It is called “shir chadosh,” the masculine form of song.

May we merit to have our very being and the way we live our lives as a new song to Hashem as we go through the high and low notes of our daily experiences. May those notes combine to create a beautiful new song to Hashem, the song of redemption.

Thank you for listening, and have a wonderful day.
