Chaggai Perek 1

• In the second year of the reign of King Darius, Chaggai received a prophecy in which Hashem questions him why the second Beis Hamikdash is not yet built.

• Hashem then reiterates that the time has come to continue to build the second Temple. Note: Koresh had initially given the Jews permission to start construction of the second Beis Hamikdash. However, Koresh revoked his permission after political pressure was applied.

• Hashem points out the dire poverty in which the nation is living, and how inappropriate it is to go on living their personal lives without any consideration of construction.

• Hashem assures Chaggai that He will fill the second Beis Hamikdash with His Divine Presence.

• Again, Hashem tells Chaggai to prepare the wood for building and to start construction.

• Construction starts for the second Beis Hamikdash.
