Hoshea Perek 5

• This perek contains harsh rebuke to the ten tribes of Yisrael. Efraim I in particular is singled out because Yerav’am ben Nevat came from Efraim, and he set up watch guards and two golden calves at the entrance to Yerushalayim. (Radak)

• The kohanim and leaders will be punished for being false.

• The ten tribes of Yisrael will be punished because they engaged in promiscuity.

• “You are steeped in intermarriage.”

• “Yisrael will be humbled when God punishes them.”

• “I will attack Efraim like a lion and Yehudah like a young lion.”
