Asalya, the mother of Achazyahu, became the next king of Yehudah.

Asalya tried to kill every last member of the lineage of Dovid, who were her own grandchildren.

Yoash, the youngest child of Yehoram, was hidden for six years by a nurse named Yehosheva, who was also King Yehoram’s daughter.

Yehoyadah the kohen devised a plan to instate Yoash as the new king over Yehudah.

His plan was as follows: The kohanim and officers were split into three groups. On Shabbos one third was to guard one entranceway, one third was to guard another entranceway, and the last third was to guard Yoash in the palace. The group was to surround and form a protective barrier around Yoash. Then Yoash was anointed and declared king.

Asalya heard people proclaiming Yoash the new king.

Yehoyadah the kohen had Asalya seized and killed in front of the palace.

Yehoyadah then had all of the officers remove and destroy the idols of Baal.

All of Yisrael was happy.
