Bullet Point Summary
Melachim II Perek 7
-
King Yehoram of Yisrael went to Elisha to pray for the famine to end.
-
Elisha told Yehoram that the famine would end the following day. Yehoram’s general, who was present at the time, mocked Elisha. Elisha told the general, “You will see the food, but you will not live to eat from the food.”
-
There were four men with leprosy sitting outside the city gates. (Rashi: Gaichazi and his children.)
-
They reasoned that it was better to go into the camp of Aram to look for food than to stay where they were and die of hunger.
-
Hashem made a miracle by making the camp of Aram hear loud sounds and making them think that the Egyptian army was coming to attack them. In a great panic the camp of Aram fled, leaving behind all of their property and food.
-
The lepers entered the Aram camp and found it completely devoid of people.
-
They informed King Yehoram what they had stumbled upon.
-
Yehoram initially was hesitant to believe them, so he sent out messengers to validate their claim.
-
All of Yisrael went to the Aram camp where there was plenty food, gold, silver and animals for all.
-
Yohoram’s general was ordered to hold the gate open for Yisrael, and he was trampled by the people, in accordance with Elisha’s prophecy.
