· This perek continues to discuss the destruction of Ninveh, the capitol of Ashur.
· Note: Most meforshim learn that this perek refers to Bavel’s defeat of Ninveh and Sancheriv, king of Ashur’s downfall. However, the Alshich Hakadosh and the Ramad Walli explain that this perek refers to the final redemption.
· A messenger will spread the good news, which will spread throughout the land of Yehudah, that Sancheriv was defeated. (most meforshim)
· The messenger will tell the nation to celebrate and be happy because they’ll never be invaded again.
· Ashur had prepared for war with weapons, horses, and shields.
· Ashur’s chariots were as fast as lightning, but they were destined to meet their doom.
· Hashem will completely destroy Ashur.
· They will never be heard from again!
