· King Chanun was skeptical of Dovid’s intentions.

· King Chanun embarrassed Dovid’s messengers by shaving half their beards off and cutting off half of their clothing.

· Dovid was enraged by what King Chanun had done.

· King Chanun then arranged for 33,000 soldiers to fight against Yisrael.

· Yoav split his army into two groups and appointed Avishai to lead the second group.

· Yoav and Avishai defeated their opponents.

· Then approximately 40,000 additional soldiers, from the surrounding nations, came to fight against Yisrael.

· Dovid personally went into battle with Yisrael.

· Once the nations were defeated in battle, they all subjugated themselves to King Dovid.
