• Yoav understood that Dovid longed for Avshalom.

• Yoav devised a plan to have Dovid bring Avshalom back home.

• Yoav paid a woman from Takoa to play a role to deliver a parable to Dovid regarding his own children.

• The woman dressed up as a widow mourning her husband. The woman related having one child who killed her other child. Her extended family had put pressure on her to hand over her only remaining child to be put to death for the killing. The woman was pained because if her only remaining child would be killed then she would have no heirs.

• The woman explained how the parable related to Dovid. The woman then implored Dovid to bring Avshalom back home.

• Dovid inquired if Yoav had put her up to this and the woman admitted that it was so.

• Dovid ordered Yoav to return Avshalom to the palace, but he did not permit Avshalom to see him for two years.

• Avshalom was extremely beautiful with long, heavy hair. Avshalom was the best-looking man in the entire land.

• Avshalom requested from Yoav several times to be brought into Dovid’s presence.

• Yoav refused Avshalom each time.

• Avshalom ordered Yoav’s fields to be burnt down.

• Avshalom explained to Yoav, “What good was it for you to bring me back to the palace if I cannot see my Father?”

• Yoav relayed this to Dovid. Dovid ordered that Avshalom be brought into his royal presence.

• Dovid and Avshalom were reunited.
