-
The sons of Dovid who were born in Chevron were Amnon, Kilav, Avshalom, Adoniya, Shafatya, and Yisram.
-
Ish Boshes accused Avner of lying with King Shaul’s concubine.
-
Avner took offense at the accusation.
-
Avner sent messengers to Dovid requesting a treaty between them.
-
Dovid consented on the condition that Michal, the daughter of King Shaul, be returned from Paltiel Ben Laish to Dovid, as his wife.
-
After Avner made a truce with Dovid, Avner rallied and gained support for Dovid as the king of Yisrael.
-
Dovid served Avner a feast. Avner then left Dovid.
-
Yoav came to Dovid and heard that Avner had left Dovid in peace.
-
Yoav spoke to Dovid harshly. Yoav told Dovid that Avner was not to be trusted.
-
Yoav devised a plan to kill Avner.
-
Yoav killed Avner (Note: Yoav felt he was the avenger [goel hadam] for his brother, Asahel.)
-
Upon hearing about the death of Avner, Dovid mourned and wept over Avner publicly.
-
Dovid made Yoav tear his clothing as well.
-
Dovid did not want anyone to think that he had secretly ordered Avner to be killed.
-
All of Yisrael saw that Dovid was sincere.
