Tehilim Perek 101

Hello everybody, I hope you’re all doing well on this wonderful day. I’m Rabbi Shaya Sussman, covering the entire TANACH one perek at a time. Today’s NachDaily is Tehilim Chapter 101.

Baruch Hashem we have only 50 perekim left in this Sefer. Whether you’ve been following NachDaily since we started to learn Tehilim, or you’re just a casual listener or reader, we’re happy to have you with us.

There are many regular followers who have been with NachDaily since we started Sefer Yehoshua about 3 years ago. Baruch Hashem, NachDaily has 2,000 subscribers and listeners literally throughout the globe. They are on their way to finishing the entire TANACH little by little, as we connect to the greatest Tzaddkim of all time by learning their words.

We have finished the chapters written by Moshe Rabbenu, and this one was written by Dovid himself.

The Ramad Walli explains that the previous perek ended by describing how Hashem will bring the world to a general tikkun, rectification, of chessed and mishpat, kindness and judgment. In this perek, Dovid speaks of the individual tikkun of chessed and mishpat with which he directed his kingdom.

Dovid also speaks about other kings who oppress their people by distorting judgment, but says that he would only judge with chessed and mishpat, keeping God’s will in the forefront of his mind. Dovid reiterates his hatred for evil and his sincere love of strict justice.

The perek opens with the words:

לְדָוִ֗ד מִ֫זְמ֥וֹר חֶֽסֶד־וּמִשְׁפָּ֥ט אָשִׁ֑ירָה לְךָ֖ יְהוָ֣ה אֲזַמֵּֽרָה׃

Of David, a psalm. Of lovingkindness and justice I will sing. To You God, I will sing.

Rashi explains based on the Gemara in Brachos 54A that chessed u’mishpat ashira, means that I will sing to You regardless of my circumstances, no matter how You treat me. Whether Hashem treats me with kindness or with judgment, I’ll sing to Him.

This is a great lesson in emunah which cannot be overstated. No matter what you have gone through in your life, no matter with what you may be struggling, Hashem is with you. You can still sing to Him.

I once heard in the name of Rav Shlomo Friefeld that If you are still alive, it means that God still has something for you to accomplish…you are desired by God!

Therefore, if you feel you have nothing more left in you to give, and life has gotten you down, cheer up. You can come close to Hashem no matter where you are, because the good and the bad all come from one Divine source. As Dovid says, whether it’s chessed or mishpat, I’ll keep singing to You.

May we merit having emunah penetrate our hearts and minds so that we can see the oneness behind life, that ultimately hakol letovah, it’s all good.

Thank you for listening and have a wonderful day.
