Tehilim Perek 117
Hello everybody, I’m Rabbi Shaya Sussman, covering the entire TANACH one perek at a time. Today’s NachDaily is Tehilim Chapter 117.
This is the 5th chapter in Hallel, and also the shortest.
The Radak explains that this perek is about the final redemption.
The two pessukim are:
הַלְלוּ אֶת־יְהוָה כָּל־גּוֹיִם שַׁבְּחוּהוּ כָּל־הָאֻמִּים׃
Praise God, all you nations; extol Him, all you peoples,
כִּי גָבַר עָלֵינוּ חַסְדּוֹ וֶאֱמֶת־יְהוָה לְעוֹלָם הַלְלוּ־יָהּ׃
for His loving-kindness toward us has intensified; And God’s truth is eternal. Hallelujah.
The Shai Lemora explains that the two pessukim hint to the fact that the world will be split into two camps during the times of Mashiach. Am Yisrael, who keeps the Torah, will be on one side. Those in the rest of the world who keep the sheva mitzvos b’nei Noach, 7 Noahide laws, will be on the other side. Both groups, seeing the goodness of Hashem, will unanimously praise Him at the time of the final redemption and want to sing Hallel.
This demonstrates the universal nature of the Torah, which teaches that God is for everyone! We want the whole world to see God’s truth, that of His Torah and Am Yisrael. At the time of the final redemption, therefore, the world will reach its tikkun, rectification, and the gentiles will also feel compelled and obligated to sing Hallel to God.
The Ramad Walli adds that during the final redemption the good inside the gentile nations will be recognized and brought to the forefront. This will cause many to convert to Judaism.
The Alshich Hakadosh brings the Bamidbar Rabba 1:3 which says that If the gentiles realized how much they lost by destroying the Beis Hamikdash, they never would have done it!
The Alshich goes on to explain that when the Beis Hamikdash was destroyed, the world lost a tremendous amount of shefa, Divine flow, which went to Am Yisrael.
At the time of the final redemption, however, all will recognize the emes, truth, and burst forth in Hallel. At this point, the shefa will be returned.
May we merit singing Hallel together with all the nations of the world, to see the coming of the Mashiach Ben Dovid and the rebuilding of the 3rd Beis Hamikdash in our days!
