Bullet Point Summary
Yechezkel Perek 16
Note: this is one of the longest perakim in the entire sefer, having sixty-two pesukim. This is just a summary of the perek, as it is written.
-
A parable which relates that Yerushalayim was like an abandoned baby covered in blood who was left to fend for itself, until a kind owner (God) took it in, cleaned it off, and raised her.
-
The owner (God) dressed her in the finest clothing and gave her fancy jewelry.
-
Her (Yerushalayim’s) beauty was breathtaking.
-
However, she turned to harlotry and acted like a prostitute. She had become so lewd that she would offer her services for free to other men. According to meforshim, this refers to the idol worship that took place in Yerushalayim.
-
Because she had acted in such away, God will allow her to be taken advantage of.
-
Yerushalayim’s evil is worse than that of Shomron and S’dom.
-
However, in the end, despite her forgetting about how she was found and raised, God will make a new covenant with her.
-
Eretz Yisrael will no longer feel ashamed after seeing God’s eternal love for her.
