Yechezkel Perek 18

• Hashem addresses a common mistaken belief throughout Yisrael that people are judged based upon the deeds of their parents or their children.

• “Why does Yisrael keep saying, “Parents eat sour grapes and their children’s teeth decay?”’

• Hashem punishes or rewards an individual based only upon his own actions. (Note: This is how most commentators learn. This is not a comprehensive discussion of the matter.)

• Both the righteous and the wicked will be rewarded and punished according to their own deeds.

• God does not desire to punish the wicked. He prefers that they do teshuva and return from their evil ways.

• “Throw away all your sins and start anew with a new heart, refreshed spirit, and enthusiasm toward serving God!”
