Bullet Point Summary

Yechezkel Perek 36

This is a recording of the dry facts. For further information listen to the NachDaily audio.

Radak, Rambam, Ralbag, Metzudos, and others learn that Yechezkel was shown this in a prophetic vision and it did not actually occur. However, Sanhedrin 92b seems to indicate that this did actually happen, as Yehudah ben B’saira claimed he was a descendant of one of the people resurrected by Yechezkel and he actually had a pair of tefillin from him!

  • God showed Yechezkel a valley of dry bones.

  • Yechezkel was asked if these bones could come alive.

  • Yechezkel responded by stating that God can do whatever He pleases.

  • Yechezkel was to prophesy that the bones would come back to life.

  • “I will cover you with sinew, flesh, and skin and bring you back to life.”

  • Yechezkel prophesied and watched as the bones grew sinew, flesh and skin, but they did not come back to life.

  • Again Yechezkel was to prophesy about the dead bones that the spirit of God should enter them and they should come alive.

  • The bones came alive and stood up on their feet.

  • God told Yechezkel: “These are the dry bones of Am Yisrael, that are worn out from exile.

  • “I will cause the dead bones of Am Yisrael to come back alive and I will bring them to Eretz Yisrael.

  • “In Eretz Yisrael the nation will be filled with the ‘spirit of God’.”

  • Yechezkel was commanded to take two sticks and write on them “Yehudah” and “Yosef”, and then join the two sticks together.

  • This represented the complete uniting of Am Yisrael in the times of Mashiach.

  • An ingathering of the exiles will take place.

  • “My servant Dovid will reign over My nation in their own land.

  • “Yisrael will follow my Torah and keep its laws.

  • “The Beis Hamikdash will be rebuilt and last forever.

  • “The nations of the world will know that I am God.”
