Bullet Point Summary

Yeshaya Perek 18

The Radak says that this perek discusses the great salvation that will take place in the times of Mashiach.

Rashi says that this perek is referring to the war of “Gog U’Magog”. (For info on Gog U’Magog see Yechezkel, chapter 38).

Note: there are multiple meanings of the pesukim found in this perek (which is true for many of the perakim in Sefer Yeshaya), as many of the words are difficult just to translate. This summary of this perek will just be a recording of the pesukim as they appear.

  • Woe to the land of shaded wings, which is on the other side of the rivers of Cush. (Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan zt’l, in “ The living Nach”, learns that Cush refers to Ethiopia).

  • Messengers of Cush will come to Eretz Yisrael to see if the prophecy of the Jews returning to their land has come true.

  • When the shofar is blown, all people on earth will hear it, as Yisrael returning to its land will be a sign for all the nations of the world.

  • At that time a tribute will be brought from the surrounding nations to Hashem, as all have seen the ingathering of the exile of Yisrael returning to Eretz Yisrael.
