Bullet Point Summary

Yirmiya Perek 29

Yirmiya sent an open letter to the leaders and people of Yisrael who were already exiled to Bavel by Nevuchadnetzar.

The beginning part of the letter tells the Jews to stay strong in exile, to maintain a strong Jewish identity, and to continue to grow the nation by having children.

Hashem will return the nation from exile at the end of seventy years. Therefore the nation should not give up and lose their focus on the future.

The second half of the letter warns them not to listen to the false prophets who continue to disseminate lies and illusions to the minds of the nation.

Two false prophets are highlighted – Achav ben Kolaya and Tzidkiyahu ben Ma’aseyah. Hashem will punish them.

Yirmiya pens a second letter, speaking out against Shemayah Hanechelami who prophesied that the Jews would return to Eretz Yisrael sooner than Yirmiya said.
