Yirmiya Perek 35

This prophecy took place during the reign of king Yehoyakim.

Yirmiya was instructed to invite a nomadic tribe called Reichav to drink wine in the Beis Hamkidash.

Yirmiya brought the entire tribe to the Beis Hamikdash and offered them wine.

The tribe refused the wine.

The tribe related being descendants of Yonadav ben Reichav who commanded them not to drink wine, own land, plant seeds or live in proper homes. For generations they had adhered strictly to their ancestor’s words.

Note: Yonadav ben Reichav was a descendant of one of Yisro’s children.

Yirmiya received a harsh prophecy about how Yisrael should have learned from the Reichav tribe not to listen to its leaders and to follow the words of Hashem.

Yisrael will be punished and Reichav will be rewarded.
